Irish Soda Bread

Yields: 1 loaf

  • 4 cups Ginger Evans All Purpose Flour
  • 1  1/4 cup Buttermilk
  • 1/2 cup Coburn Farms Butter, softened
  • 1/4 cup Coburn Farms Butter, melted
  • 4 tbsp Ginger Evans Granulated Sugar
  • 1 tbsp Ginger Evans Baking Powder
  • 1 tsp Ginger Evans Baking Soda
  • 1/2 tsp Marcum Salt
  • 1 Good Nature Large Egg
  1. Preheat oven to 375°F. Grease all sides of a large baking pan.
  2. In a mixing bowl, combine flour, softened butter, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  3. Add in one cup of buttermilk along with one egg.
  4. Remove dough from mixing bowl and place onto a floured surface, and begin to knead the dough.
  5. Knead dough into a loaf, and place on the greased baking pan.
  6. Mix together melted butter and the remaining buttermilk. Then brush mixture onto dough and cut an “X” on the loaf.
  7. Bake bread for 45-50 minutes. Use a toothpick to test the dough after 30 minutes.
  8. After you check the doneness, brush the loaf again with melted butter and bake for another 10-15 minutes.
  9. Remove from oven and allow to cool.
