Coburn Farms heavy cream, as needed
Marcum salt, to taste
Cold water, as needed
Glass jar with lid (any size)

  1. Fill the jar halfway with heavy cream.
  2. Shake the jar vigorously. The heavy cream should be forcefully hitting the top and bottom of the jar.
  3. After a few minutes, the heavy cream in the jar will transform into whipped cream and be very thick.
  4. This liquid is buttermilk. The butter fat solids have separated from the buttermilk.
  5. se a fine strainer to remove the butter from the buttermilk. Add the butter to a bowl and, with clean hands, gently form the butter into one piece.
  6. To rinse any excess buttermilk off of the butter, pour about 1 cup of cold water over the butter. Discard this water and rinse the butter a few more times or until the water runs clear.
  7. Season the butter as desired with salt, honey, or herbs.
