Homemade Salsa

2 10.5-oz cans diced tomatoes with chilies, drained and juices reserved
1 jalapeño (optional), seeds and ribs removed
½ of a small onion
1 red or orange bell pepper, seeds and ribs removed
2 garlic cloves
1 tsp. sugar
Salt & pepper


  1. Combine all ingredients in a blender or food processor and blend to desired smoothness, adding reserved tomato juice if desired.
