How long have you been a meat cutter? I’ve been a meat cutter for 18 years
How long have you been with Save A Lot? I’ve been with Save A Lot for 2 years.
How did you get your start in the meat retail business? I got my start in this business because of my family. They have a history in retail grocery. My father was in the grocery business for 47 years. I started as a cashier at age 16 and went into the meat room at age 18.
Favorite part of the job? What I love about my job is that every day presents itself with a separate set of tasks and challenges. I enjoy cutting meat and trying to satisfy as many customers’ needs as possible in the best way I can.
What is your favorite cut of meat? My favorite cut of meat is top sirloin steak.
What makes your meat department the place to shop/sets you apart? I take pride in freshness, presentation and craftmanship in every piece of meat that is out in the case. I accommodate customers’ wants and requests, trying to get them the product they want or offering a similar item that will give them the same outcome they are looking for.
How many different products would you estimate are available in the fresh meat program at your store? We proudly provide 80 different fresh meat products in our store.
What is the funniest question or request you have received from a shopper? I had a customer ask me if the whole brisket in the meat case was the same thing as a ribeye. I also always have customers that cannot figure out how boneless ribeye and Delmonico steak are the same thing.
What is your favorite Save A Lot private label product? I love Kurtz Wing Sauce.
What do you like to do on your day off? I enjoy spending time with family and friends, anything to do with the outdoors from hunting, fishing, yard work or just relaxing by a fire. I also love hanging out with my two boys. That is always the number one thing I love doing on my days off.
