Manager of the Year Scott Reynolds

Decades of Experience Makes All the Difference for Michigan Manager of the Year

Scott Reynolds, store manager at Dowignac, MI Save A Lot store.

For four decades, Dowignac, MI Store Manager Scott Reynolds has been learning and loving working in the grocery business. From his first job bagging groceries as a high school student to now running a store that consistently has shown sales gains in the last eight out of 10 years, Reynolds credits his commitment to detail, his team and his customers.

If you visit Reynold’s Dowignac Save A Lot, you’ll see his attention to detail at every turn. His love of merchandising comes through. Whether it’s setting up a display to showcase new product offerings for summer or ensuring the shelves of the spice section look neat and tidy, Reynolds and his team understand that paying attention to details makes all the difference. “When I walk a new or existing team member through how to merchandise a section, it’s also a great reminder for me” said Reynolds. “Seeing my team really start to understand and then build on a topic I taught them is truly rewarding.”

Putting time and effort into his team is another part of the job Reynolds loves. “I truly want to see all of my team succeed,” he said. “Finding good people is one thing but keeping them and making them feel valued is something else. It’s hard to do, but I pride myself on working to find ways to regularly build my team up and let them know how appreciative I am of their work.”

That appreciation of his team also extends to his customers. Reynolds says during his time working in the grocery business, he’s met thousands of people and formed lasting relationships during that time. “Those relationships I’ve formed over the years are really the cornerstone of what’s made me so successful,” he shared. “Customers in my store know that my team and I will listen to their needs and wants when it comes to product offerings and will work to see what we can do. When they know we’re listening to them, they show their appreciation by shopping in our store. That reciprocal relationship is really the key to this store’s success.”
