Save A Lot, one of the largest discount grocery store chains in the United States, is serving up holiday dessert classics with a side of personality this year. With the holidays right around the corner, ‘tis the season to stuff your face with decadent desserts. While there are many types of holiday dessert classics, only one reigns supreme during the winter months—pie.

Pie, as we all know and love, is not only a very important addition to any meal, but an important part of spending time with loved ones. With more people celebrating the holidays in person this year, Save A Lot identified the most popular pies by state through purchasing data over the last three years during November and December*.

The breakdown spans between three flavors—Apple, Pumpkin and Pecan sweeping the nation as holiday favorites. Data shows that 61% of American states prefer Apple, 23% prefer Pumpkin and 16% prefer Pecan. Additionally, data shows that from 2019 to 2020, 8% of states changed their purchasing preferences from Pecan to Apple pie, and almost 15% of states steered from Pumpkin over to Apple. The seeds have been planted, and the trend is growing at its (apple) core.

While each state has different pie preferences, so do individuals, and your choice can say a lot about who you are—so here’s who you are according to your states most popular flavor or the pie you indulge in:

Apple: You are “as American as apple pie.” Apple pie eaters like tradition, because there is a sense of security in the familiar. Apple pie is simple, classic.

Pumpkin: If you are a pumpkin pie fan, fall is probably your favorite season. You love sitting at home wearing a chic knit, curled up in a comfortable chair with a good book.

Pecan: Pecan pie lovers are the sweetest you will ever meet. Like the pies, which drip with sugar, you are friendly and loving to everyone you meet, which can be infectious.
