When it comes to meat cutting, Jerry Sanquenetti is one of the best in the business. He’s been behind the Save a Lot meat counter at our Terre Haute, IN location since 1986 so he knows a thing or two about fresh cut meats.

How long have you been a Meat manager/cutter? Since 1986

How long have you been with Save A Lot/Kirby Foods? I’ve been with Kirby Foods since 1977. I started in Clinton, IN initially and then transferred to the Terre Haute Save A Lot.

How did you get your start in the meat retail business? I originally started as a Stockboy and then transferred into the meat department.

Favorite part of the job? My favorite part of this job are all the people I’ve gotten to know over the years. I’ve made a lot of great friends here.

How many meat cutters/managers would you guess you have trained in your career? There are too many to count but many are still working at other locations in the Kirby Foods organization.

What’s your favorite cut of meat? The Ribeye!

What makes your meat department the place to shop/sets you apart? We keep the case cut fresh, we custom cut orders for customers, we sell bundles and our Pick 5 selection is one of the biggest around.

How many different products would you estimate are available in the fresh meat program at your store? We have anywhere between 60-80 at any given time. 

What’s the funniest question or request you’ve received from a shopper? We have had many ask us to slice spiral hams over the years….Spiral hams come pre-sliced 😊. 

What’s a favorite experience or memory from working for Save A Lot/Kirby Foods? Working with and getting to know a lot of really good people.

What’s your favorite Save A Lot private label product? Mantia’s Frozen Pizza Selection 

What do you like to do on your day off? On my days off I enjoy playing golf and watching sporting events.
