With 31 years of meat cutting experience, James Griffin is one of the best in the business. He’s been behind the Save a Lot meat counter at our Elmira, NY location for 4 years and was just promoted to Meat Manager!

How long have you been a Meat cutter? I’ve been a meat cutter for 31 years.  

How long have you been with Save A Lot? I’ve been at Elmira Save A Lot for 4 years and just recently got promoted to Meat Manager! 

How did you get your start in the meat retail business? I started in the business by applying for a job and was put in the meat department as a meat room cleanup person. 

Favorite part of the job? My favorite part of the job is cutting beef.

How many meat cutters/managers would you guess you have trained in your career? I’ve trained 50+ meat cutters over the years. 

What’s your favorite cut of meat? Chuck Short Ribs 

What makes your meat department the place to shop/sets you apart? Our meat quality and pricing set our department apart from others. 

How many different products would you estimate are available in the fresh meat program at your store? We have over 100 different products available in our fresh meat department. 

What’s the funniest question or request you’ve received from a shopper? Funniest question I’ve been asked was where the ground beef was when the customer was standing right next to it. 

What’s a favorite experience or memory from working for Save A Lot? My favorite experience was working through our remodel grand reopening. We upgraded our meat case and added bunker display cases. 

What’s your favorite Save A Lot private label product? Farmington Hot Sausage 

What do you like to do on your day off? When I’m not working, I like to snowboard, ride watercrafts and ATV’s.
